Laurel AND Yanny

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Greetings, readers!

There is an interesting discussion in the Internet at the moment. There is a recording that may either sound like Yanny, or like Laurel. There is a Tweet that asks you to vote.

Then, Business Insider gives an explanation for what is going on. Somebody did a high-frequency recording of the word “Yanny”, and a low-frequency recording of the word “Laurel”. The two recordings were then overlaid, in such a way that it is difficult (if not entirely impossible) to hear both. The recording discovery of it can be found in another tweet. (Slight language warning.)

The fascinating thing for me: when I started, I could only hear Yanny. After listening to the different pitch levels, however, I can hear both with Laurel as the main one. I have no explanation.

What about you?

Aluminum Spheres

Greetings, readers!

I am not sure if you have seen the “aluminum sphere” challenges that have been going around. People have been taking aluminum foil and pounding them into spheres, and they are quite lovely.

Somebody decided to make it fairly scientific, and tested exactly how solid the aluminum spheres are.

Enjoy.

There is a list of state foods.

Greetings, readers!

I recently discovered a Wikipedia list of “state foods”. I believe these are foods that the state (from the USA) wants associated with them.

There are a few things I found particularly amusing. First, California’s state fruit is the Avocado. Second, Mississippi’s only state food listed is its cookie: the Butter Cookie. Similarly, Missouri only has a State Dessert of “ice cream cone”.

Texas, by contrast, has 11 categories. These categories include both “state pepper”, and “state native pepper.” (Emphasis added.)

If you are feeling particularly interested, it is worth exploring!

Enjoy.

I almost got free Chinese Food!

Hi!

So, this happened a couple days ago…:

Scene: I am at home, alone. There is a knock on the door.

I answer it.

A pleasant fellow is outside, holding a plastic bag filled with Chinese take-out containers. He tries to hand the bag to me.

“Delivery!”

“Nope!”

*Confused pause.*

Me, thinking: is somebody pranking me? But I just had dinner!

Him: Is this (Number that sounds like mine.)

Me: *pauses for a moment, thinking. Realize he’s off by 100.*

Me: Nope. *Tells him his mistake*

Him: *apologizes, leaves*

In related news, given that’s about the most “exciting” thing that’s happened recently, I apparently need a life.

How are you doing?

Greetings, readers!

I recently encountered some extraordinary video footage pertaining to water balloons: Somebody used a slow-motion capture setting to examine the physics.

Enjoy.

Teach a Chair to Knit!

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

Somebody created a rocking chair that knits.

Seriously. You thread the chair, you sit in the chair, you rock, and a hat gets knitted while you rock.

I have no clue whether or not something made through that process qualifies as “hand made”, but it’s still a fun use of technology!

More information can be found here.

Enjoy!

Who wants to wear a dead fish?

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

Some. people.

I recently found out that somebody decided that Dead Fish slippers were a good idea. (Don’t worry- they only look like a dead fish. They aren’t actually made from dead fish. As far as I can tell.

They are available, of course, from Amazon.

If you get any, tell me whether or not they’re comfortable?
