Dracula and Moonlight

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

Somebody pointed out the other day that since moonlight is just reflected sunlight, Dracula should theoretically dustify in moonlight. Which got me thinking.

Given that vampires don’t actually have reflections, does that mean they react differently with other reflected things than we do? Like, you know. If they don’t have a reflection, then reflected things shouldn’t bother them. Right?

So, what are your thoughts? Should moonlight make Dracula go *Poof*?

A question with a weird answer

Hi!

I recently came to a realization. The question “Would you please be a contrarian?” has a weird set of answers.

If you answer no, you’re not. But at the same time, you’re answering no. And similarly, if you answer “yes”, you’re demonstrating that you’re not a contrarian by agreeing to be one.

Happy paradoxing!

Question: Deadlines

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

It occurs to me. Where even does the term “deadline” come from?

Did it exist before, or after the existence of phone lines? It seems like that could make sense as an origin story: Two people are on the phone, and they need to keep track of how long they had before the line went dead.

But if that’s so, what did they have before deadlines?

Any thoughts?

Have a lovely day!

Questions for Oneself

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Greetings, readers!

A question came up a couple days ago. Is it possible to ignore oneself?

Obviously…? Just have a blank mind?

No, not necessarily. You see, in order to be ignored, you need to be thinking something or making a noise. Otherwise, it would likely not be possible to be ignored. (Although that might actually be an interesting question for a different post, now that I think about it.)

But if you are tuning yourself out, that would imply turning off thought. The turning off of thought, in turn, would imply the lack of something to be ignored. Thus, it may not be possible.

What are your thoughts, readers?

Dessert inspired thoughts

Hi!

I may have had a bit too much sugar at the time of writing this post. There was a dessert potluck that I went to. Which got me thinking. If someone brings a dessert that doesn’t get eaten at the potluck, if they’re not brownies, does that person still get the Brownie Points for bringing the dessert?

And on that note, I’ll wish you a Happy Friday, filled with Much Tasty Sugar!

Next question: “Icebreakers”!

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

So. I’m sure you’re aware that “icebreakers” a type of question, generally used at the beginning of events.

This leads to a question: What do you think the first icebreaker question was? And why do you think it got the name?

My first bet is that it’s two fishermen who show up to find the lake is frozen over. They’ve been standing for a while, staring, sometimes casting their line, to watch in dismay as it keeps landing on the ice. The silence grows awkward.

Finally, one looks at the other and asks, “Any ideas how to break the ice?”

“Hmm,” says the other. “I bet we could figure this out.”

And as they talk, and get closer to the ice to examine it, the heat of their breath broke through the ice. And they both had made a new friend.

But that’s just my thought.

What do you think the first icebreaker was?

“What Makes a Good Question?” (2)

Hi!

As you may remember, the most recent question I asked is about what even makes a good question.

And today, I’d like to propose that part of what can make a good question is that it’s a bit surprising. Sure, you can ask a “favorite color” type of question. But that’s asked so often, you probably have a canned answer.

Unexpected questions, on the other hand, have the potential to help you think.

What do you think, though?

Good questions

Hi!

As you may remember, I’ve been having some “question” posts this year.

And today, my question is: What even makes a good question?

One thing that comes to mind is that it isn’t just a yes/no question. (Those are a bit too easy to answer.)

What are your thoughts?

Have a great day!

Next Question!

Hi!

Time for the Next Question: You can live an infinite amount of time, but either living “as usual” for an unlimited number of days (vertical), or by having an infinite amount of time per day (horizontal). (So, you can pause the day, transport yourself elsewhere, whatever.) Which do you choose?

Currently, as I’m faced with too much to do in too little time, I’d go with Horizontal. What about you?

More Thoughts on Perfectly Prepared Food

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hi!

As you may recall, I’m trying something new, with being more intentional about questions and answers. Or something. (You can read the post.) In that post, I was wondering about the potential for making a food… perfectly. Like, it’s your magic talent.

I also started to think of answers, based on costs and wasteage.

Now, I’m thinking about it in terms of preferences. So, there are some tradeoffs here as well. You could, for example, make it so that your Absolutely Favorite Dish Ever always turns out perfectly.

But if it’s your Absolute Favorite Dish Ever To Make, especially if it’s one that you usually make, you run into extra complications. Are you already making it well? If so, would it make sense to magically guarantee you can always make it perfectly? Or should you go with one of the less commonly made ones?

Is it possible that your favorite dish is only your favorite because you can’t make your second-favorite perfectly?

Would you want to risk it?

Also, what if your favorite is different from what most of your friends like. Would you want to make a perfect crowd-pleaser?

And other fun considerations.

Happy thinking!
