Russian Music Is Awesome

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters! Happy Saturday!

So, I’m really excited about the Winter Olympics. And they’re happening in Sochi, Russia! I’m expecting to be very musically pleased for the next while.

…I am guessing that you enjoy Russian music?

That puts in mildly. So much Russian music is just so delightfully dark and somber!

Sarcasm?

Actually, no. The music genuinely is. I mean, this (I think) is their national anthem:

Yes, it has its positive, upbeat moments. But at least half of it is grand, serious, and in a minor key. The version at the Olympics opening ceremony was even better, from what I could tell from broadcasts. After all there are no basses like Russian basses.

Here’s a video I found of singers in St. Basil’s cathedral. My apologies for the low quality of the sound and footage, but it was one of the better versions I could find.

Those are a bit… dark.

I know, right? And the Soviet era certainly wasn’t “better”. After all, one of their army’s marching songs was this:

Polyushka Polye: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXE-m_yPH_s

And with their history, and given that they invented Tetris, I guess this movie also makes sense both musically and in other ways.

Seriously, isn’t that just so delightfully Russian?

Anywho, do you have any favorite Russian pieces? I also enjoy classical pieces. (Firebird is one of my favorites. Ask me about that sometime, by the way- there’s some fun with that piece of music, too.) Well, I hope you have a great weekend!

PIES!! AND CHOCOLATE!!

Hello, Fluffsters!

Yesterday, I made a PIE! Ok, I had some help. I went to a friend’s house to get some practice making pie crust. She made the filling, but I made the crust and spread out the filling and stuff.

It was a brownie-cheesecake pie, and it turned out beautifully, if I do say so myself.

And the crust (which I basically did myself, but with a bit of supervision) was a lot better than I was expecting!

A beautiful chocolate creamcheese pie.

The entire pie. So my crust decorations need work…

And the inside also looked (and tasted!) really good. (Again, if I do say so myself…)

A slice of brownie cheesecake pie.

Anywho, happy Friday! I hope you have a great weekend!

In fairness, I should post this

Hello, Fluffsters! Happy Thursday! I hope you’re having a great day!

I realized that I have been a bit unfair to the place I normally eat. I’ve recently only uploaded pictures of their… “questionable” material. (I’m looking at you, “Lemon Dessert” and the dessert responsible for killing the Great Pumpkin…)

However, they actually do serve decent stuff sometimes!

Recently, for example, they served an amazing thing they’re calling “Monkey Bread.”

Now, I’ve had traditional monkey bread, I really like it, and this was not quite the traditional Monkey Bread. Even so, though, it was still really good!

It was nice and bready, and raisin-y, and had an excellent consistency and flavor.

It even looked appealing!

It looked better in real life… It tasted even better than it looked.

So, I can now say that I’ve done my duty, and fully disclosed that the place I go to does sometimes serve good stuff.

Have a great day!

Responses to Annoyances

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters!

Have you ever been annoyed? Or how about… annoyed when paper & pencil are readily convenient? I think I more or less qualified last night. Okay, so I’m not entirely sure if annoyed or some other adjective is best for describing me last night. But regardless, here’s an image representation of some of my favorite responses for responding to annoyances.

stick figures illustrating responses to annoyances

Yes, that’s on paper I could have used to take notes…

The responses are as follows:

1) Facepalm. This is always useful. If anyone asks, you can either tell the truth, or indicate that you’re just tired, and resting your head in your hand. Not that I condone dishonesty per say. But yeah.

2) Bang Head Here. This, alas, cannot be done as easily in a group of people, as it attracts attention. (It sometimes is a great way of venting, though!)

3) Flail. The others are basically variations of flailing wildly. Like the Bang Head Here, this is not always the least obvious response, so use it wisely.

4) Illustrate each of the responses that you want to do. That’s not illustrated above, except insofar as it’s an illustration of responses that I want to do. Or something like that. The illustrating part is really useful, since you can then pretend that you’re the one doing it, and therefore not actually need to do it in real life.

Yeah.

So, what are your responses to annoyances?

Death Statistics

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Salutations, readers. I hope that this Tuesday finds you well!

I came across this lovely piece about death statistics yesterday, and thought you might find it rather droll.

I had no idea there were so many unexpectedly dangerous foods, activities, or animals on your world!

My apologies for the shortness of the post, but that’s about all I wanted to say. I hope you enjoy, and have an excellent Tuesday.

Things You Wish You Did Instead Of The Super Bowl

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters! Happy Monday!

Well, I’m not sure about you, but I had a fantastic time last night.

In answer to the unspoken question (for this is, after all, a blog) no, I did not watch the Super Bowl. And from what I’ve heard, it seems as though you might wish you hadn’t either. I’ve heard it described to me as though “if both of the teams had shown up to play, it would have been a better game.”

…Huh?

Oh. That was a bit confusing, wasn’t it?

Basically, I’ve heard it said that one of the teams played so badly, it was as though they never fully showed up to play the game.

Oh.

Yes. So, in honor of the game probably leaving you wishing to have done something else, I’m going to share with you some things that you might have actually enjoyed doing. Some of these might even have been things I did. You know, just to make you jealous. 🙂

…Did you seriously just use a “Smiley”?

Yes. Yes I did.

What can I say? It fit. But that’s a change of topic. Again. Ok, no more delays!

Things you wish you’d done instead of watching the “Super” Bowl

A) Take a nice, long, relaxing shower. Of course, that only takes up part of the time of the super bowl, in all probability, so you’ll want to combine this with other items from the list.

If you don’t need to combine this with other activities, even I’m a bit concerned for you…

2) Have a nice long dinner / lunch / meal with friends / family. As with the previous one, this might not take you the full time, and should probably be combined with other activities. Maybe you could take a long shower, and then have a nice meal with friends or family?

Ooh, I’ve got a better one:

3) Prove that if 1 > 0, then if x > 1, and n is a positive integer x^(1/n) > 1, Assuming that laws of exponents work. Also, you might want to prove that 1^(1/n) = 1, for any positive integer 1.

…Uh… I don’t know if I even know what that means.

Fine.

3b) Try to figure out what 3 even means.

Are you happy now?

Uh, not necessarily about that.

Speaking of “happy”, though,

5) Polka through the halls. There are few things quite so cheerful as a nice polka! And it’s certainly got to be more fun that the “super” bowl supposedly was.

5) Discuss whether or not you even exist. Or if you’re just the figment of your imaginary friend’s imagination.

Extra kudos to you if you answer that one without using the “Cogito Ergo Sum” argument. Even more “points” if you solve that answer and present it in mathematical form.

So… Lots of mathsy stuffs from you. Have you been studying Math recently or something?

I needed some way to keep myself entertained…

So you decided to work on learning math. Of course.

Z) Watch the final episode of Sherlock, Season 3 as it came out in the United States. And, possibly, prep for it ahead of time by re-watching all the other episodes.

(If you didn’t end up re-watching all the prior episodes, you could also combine this with any of the other points on this list.)

9) Play Bananagrams. This could easily take you the entire game time!

Last) Research Kant’s perspective on virtue and ethics, and its impact on the world. Maybe also write an essay on the subject. After all, football always seems to take an impossibly long time- you might be able to write an essay in the time it takes for the first quarter!

So, Fluffsters, feeling regretful yet? And any bets on which ones I actually did last night?

And don’t forget, if you’re trying to procrastinate, this list (mostly) works for that, too! I hope you enjoy trying (some of) these suggestions!

5 Guys in a Limo

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Greetings, readers. Happy Sunday to you- I understand the Super Bowl is taking place again this year.

For those of you who have no interest in whatever that event is, I offer an alternative source of entertainment. Apparently there are approximately five well-known voices in cinema. There is also a YouTube video of these five voices in a single limo going… somewhere. I found it amusing, and I hope you enjoy.

First Scene of a Story

Note: If this is your first time to TotalFluff, please visit this brief explanation. Thanks!

Hello, Fluffsters!

I hope you’re having a marvelous weekend.

As further boredom prevention for you, and because I don’t really want to write a traditional post right now, I’m uploading the first part of a story I’m in the process of writing.

Heads’ up, I haven’t finished this yet. This means that this work is subject to change, being taken down, etc., without prior notice. And stuff.

Wow. Until the last “and stuff”, that sounded almost important.

Well, I try.

And without further ado, here’s the first scene from The Lost Prince of Hadenelle, by yours truly. (Working title and whatnot.) If you have any constructive / positive feedback, I’d love to see it in the comments! I hope you enjoy, and have a good Saturday.
